Farm Them Unit

This week we are working on farm animals. We will start off with a couple of books, as well as a lapbook and notebook. I have prepared a list of items you will need for this topic for pre-school, first, and fourth grades. Let’s start off with the book list.
            Preschool books

1.      Farm Animals (Watch Me Grow) by Kindersley Dorling
2.      Farm Animals (Watch Me Grow) by Kindersley Dorling
3.      Inside a Barn in the Country: A Rebus Read-along Story by Alyssa Satin Capucilli
4.      The Little Lamb (Pictureback(R)) by Judy Dunn
5.      Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin

            First grade

1.      The Little Red Hen
3.      Wake Up, Sun!
4.      Rosie's Walk, by Pat Hutchins

Fourth grade

1.      Clever Duck by Dick King-Smith, Illustrated by Nick Bruel
2.      Corkscrew Counts by Donna Jo Napoli and Richard Tchen; illustrations by Anna Currey
3.      Little Lives: On the Farm by Catherine Allison

Many of these books you can find them at your local library, but if not some of these have a quick link to Amazon for purchase. I’m having my fourth grader do his notebook off of what he learns in these three books. I’m also having him do his first research project on the internet. Those resources are as follows.

4.      www.usda.gov/
5.      www.agriculture.com/

Here are some interesting videos and PowerPoints as well:

1.      Life on the farm part 1
2.      Life on the farm part 2
3.      Dairy life on a farm
4.      Powerpoints

I’m using free lapbook templates from www.homeschoolshare.com and for notebooking, I created my own sheets with Microsoft Word by inserting clip arts. This really is a great way get involved in farming and a hands on experience with a field trip to the farm after. Which, we will do after we finish our unit. I’m really excited to start and I hope you enjoy this. Please feel free to comment on this or if you want to add suggestions. Thank you for coming to my blog and don’t forget to click follow before you leave. Until next time, have a blessed day, and happy homeschooling!!!
