I have them write a word family at the top of their paper.
They would then brainstorm of words that would have the word family in it. This
is done after they have mastered that word family lesson.

We also have word family tiles we purchased from eBay. They
would build a word using these tiles. Once they have built 5 to 10 words they
are done.
If they are having a bad day then we would do it on the
whiteboard. This usually gets everyone participating. I think they retain it
better this way because it’s more fun with more people.
