Homeschooling While Moving

After a long thought of not doing actual homeschooling while moving caused some problems. Well let's just say shacking up with a family against homeschooling wasn't the best idea. There were so many comments about us homeschooling, as well as some jokes. The most common joke we heard was..."I ride the short bus to homeschool. My favorite color is dark clear."

Honestly, I didn't find this funny at all because it's like saying my children are dumb. It took everything I had in me to bite my tongue and lift it up to God. I really, only had a problem with my oldest son wanting to go back to public school because they made it sound like a big social event more than getting an education.

Within our first week, there was conversations about bisexuals. The second week was Facebook drama with a teacher involved. The third week was about he said she said stuff. I never saw any homework being done. The only thing that was a priority was sport games running the house. I watched everyone rushing home from work and rushing out the door for a sport event. I never thought in my wildest dream of our family putting sports in front of education.

I mean, really, think about it, how many washed up sports players do we have without an education. That's why their washed up because they never pursued an education before or while they played that sport. Yet, when they reached the age limit, they are left with no sense of direction or left with no degree to live the rest of their lives.

I can't really judge anyone here, but when someone automatically sets their mind to not liking the idea of homeshooling and so calls cracks jokes about it, says they can only handle their kids in small doses, then I have to lift it up and move around that type of environment. I know my kids are smart, well behaved, will succeed in life, and have never failed any grade including Kindergarten while in public school or homeschool. Really, I don't get this whole thing about talking bad about parents and children that homeschool. I mean seriously, homeschool Mom's, "Do we do this to public school families?" To me that's the cause of the bullying in the school system today.

I'm so thankful that my children are well rounded individuals, well mannered, and respectful to adults within and outside of our home. Now, my children did attend public and not all children who do attend are bad, it's all about how they are raised at home, but in this situation above comes from both sides. Majority of a person life is at home, so that's where morals are learned. If those aren't good, nor are priorities set right then your headed for disaster.

I think it's safe to say that it was a great learning experience for both of us. We learned about bullies, being in an environment where homeschoolers aren't welcomed and being able to rise above it. We walked away as a stronger and better person.

High School Breaking Point

This is our first year homeschooling High School. This is by far the hardest ever for me because my son doesn’t want to be homeschooled. He only wants to do 1-2 pages a day. He also gives me a hard time about what subject he’ll do. It always begins with an argument that I actually think a debate class would be great for him.

Well, I think he’s starting to accept the fact that he’s homeschooled. His attitude has changed. I’m not saying it completely turned around, but our heads aren’t bumping together and we argue less and less.
He did complete a full notebooking page without complaining. He also did his math without losing it. I also saw a total change in his writing. I can now read it and he’s writing more than asked.

The only thought that comes to my mind is faith because the power of prayer speaks for itself. He’s had a rough couple of years in middle school that he basically didn’t learn anything those years. I think he finally feels structure with his education and is coming back out of his shell. We’re both a happier camper.
I’ve been using notebooking with him since September. I think it settles with him because the layout is great for him. After three years of chaos in the public school system, Debra’s program is great for being structure back into an education for my struggling learner.

Recently, I had the opportunity to review Jimmie’s Designing your Language Arts Curriculum and Essay Tune Up. Language Arts can be difficult for all grade levels, but Jimmie’s Notebooking Success eBook taught e how to use notebooking for our homeschooling. So, I know with using living grammar will also help me with my son.

I tried her tips today with my son and it helped because he asked me about his D.O.L. (Daily Oral Language). I think he was excited because it’s now less work on his plate. I believe its better this way because he’s learning from his mistakes. As Jimmie states, “grammar books are a great resource, but why not live the language?”

As well as writing an essay because it’s been awhile for me. With these 7 formulas and the planning sheets provided in this eBook. I’m now off to a great start to refreshing my skills and as well as helping my son. He’ll take these skills with him for the years to come.

The Language Arts eBook has a lot of resources for me to teach my children well. I think with notebooking and these new suggestions, I can see some nice changes headed our way over the years to come. I strongly suggest getting these 3 eBooks while they are on sale and start your year off to a good start. Living language really is the best way for all of us. I know for me it won’t help just my children, but me as well.

Right now you can get all 3 of these eBooks for $11

Dogs Really Are Man's Best Friend

Yesterday was bad day for my little guys because two of my boys woke up sick. I kind brought that on by saying a few weeks ago that it has been awhile since my children were sick. I noticed that since starting homeschooling that they haven’t been as sick as they use to be. I really think that being in public schools, being around those germs isn't good. We use to be in the doctor’s office at least every other month with something.

This was a light week for us, but I didn't expect to have children getting sick on me, but what can I say, at least it wasn't all at once. However, once there’s one then you all start getting sick. I thought quickly and had Mom take a few to her house so that they wouldn't get sick. They have Chronic Asthma and winter isn't the time to get sick with that condition. Everything is a threat with Asthma.

Lysol is my best friend. I’m washing and cleaning everything to get the germs out of the house. I’m so worried that I would get it next. I’m drinking lots of orange juice, tea with honey, washing hands every thirty minutes, and whatever else I can think of.

I had to snap this picture because it was so cute.

At least he had company, as well as I did. I got my children a puppy for Christmas. She is so adorable, but all puppies do. There’s not enough chew toys in the world for her. I forgot how much attention puppies need; every time I turned around she was into something. (LOL) Then amount of outside trips for a puppy in the freezing cold. Seriously, I need potty train her for a litter box. (LOL) Who said litter boxes are only for cats? For now I’ll stick with what works.

There were times I thought I was going to lose it because my house is never quiet, even while my children are sleeping. I have a few that talk in their sleep and some snore. I caught up on some laundry, did some crocheting, chatted on the phone with my children at Mom’s, and cleaned the kitchen cabinets. Yet, at the end of the night, they were still sick. So, I’m thinking what else can I do? I did all that in one day; I’m going to lose my mind. (LOL)
