12 Days before Easter-Day 1

As Easter is approaching very fast, we decided to use my dear friend Ana with Ingles360's 12 Days of Easter. However, we're a little behind in getting started because of my surgery from last week. So, we did Day 1 just after lunch and Day 2 just after dinner. Click here to see 12 Days of Easter Day 2.

We all gathered our blankie, snack and cuddled on the sofa together. We began with John 20:1-29 in our Bible. We each took turns reading a verse. After we read Jesus Sentence to be Crucified, we had a short session of Q&A for my little children and had my two older children answer the questions for the little ones.

I had my children tell me who or what the letter stood for by the picture displayed. Of course they already knew, but it still is good to have them tell you. Then they colored the picture. I enjoyed this activity with my children.

12 Days before Easter-Day 2

Shortly after dinner today we completed Day 2 of the 12 Days before Easter from my dear friend Ana over at Ingles360. This was a lot of fun because my children were able to retell the story of the resurrection of Jesus. This brought a smile to my face as well as theirs as they used their hand puppets.

I had previously cut them out and passed them out. They began coloring them and the first two that finished was able to color the scenery pages, so speak. They each picked a character and recited from the Bible verses from earlier today.

Homiletics

I thought I would share this with you because I've been doing this for about 6 years now. I learned this while attending BSF (Bible Study Fellowship). I thought some of you may be looking for a way to study the Bible, but sure where to start and this will help you get started. As well as studying the word of God.

There are 7 steps and they are as follows:

Step 1:

Pray

Step 2:

Read Scripture aloud and note the 5 W’s (who, what, where, when and why)

Step 3:

Summarize the verse, summarize in 5 words or less and don’t worry about grammar and try to make a complete sentence, but without judgment. Don’t forget to keep key information. You also can group verses together without losing vital content.

Step 4:

Divisions, after you summarize all verses, pick out clear divisions of the subject matter and write a brief summary sentence.

Step 5:

Summary Sentence, This is the most difficult part, but in only 10-15 words make an attempt to write a clear and complete (use your grammar skills here) summary sentence.

Step 6:

Lessons & Truths, Answer these few questions:
What is God teaching you in this passage?
What do you think you are told to do in this passage?
What do you think you are told not to do in this passage?
What kind of thinking does this passage encourage you to do?

Step 7:

Application, this is the final stage, meditate on what you’ve read and learned, then write down how you will apply these teaching in your life, how you will act and think differently. What kind of action do you think God wants you to make from His teaching today?

Classical Academic Press-Review

Photobucket

My son and I both enjoyed this review for Classical Academic Press. Not only did we learn about God, but we bonded while learning. We started our day with the chapter story time in his Student Book. Then with the recommendation from the Teacher's Edition, we would reflect by looking up the verse in our Bibles and copying them into our Bible Journal. At the end of each chapter I would have him review the Story Time with the Audio before we would move onto the next chapter.

We received a Teacher's Edition, Audio Book Download, and the Student Book consisted of:
  • Third Grade Level
  • 32 Chapters
  • Memory Verse
  • Key Facts
  • Vocabulary
  • Review Worksheets
  • Chapter Quiz
The cost for Classical Academic God’s Great Convention Old Testament Book 1 is very reasonable. The Student book is $22.95, Teacher's Edition is $24.95, and the Audio Book Download is $9.95. Now, this is my kind of pricing and I like that there's more than one level for my son to continue his learning when he completes Classical Academic God’s Great Convention Old Testament Book 1.

He enjoyed this Student Book because it was easy navigation for him with minimal help. I think that helped him improve his independence. We would read together, go through the lesson for the chapter, break up, and he was able to complete the workbook by himself. The only suggestion I would make for the workbook is to have the Review Worksheets and the Chapter Quiz pages easier to tear out.

Classical Academic God’s Great Convention Old Testament Book 1 wasn’t easy or hard for my son. I thought at first by the layout of the chapters it looked easy. However, it was just right because not only does it appear to be fill in the blanks, it challenged my son to pay attention to the story. He realized that after the second chapter that everything he needed could be found from the story. Yes, I know it was a little late, but hey, at least he connected the concept. He’s likes to know what’s coming next, kind of like a need to know his day in advance. The Student Book is laid out like that, Story Time, Worksheets, and Quiz .

Once he figured that out, I think he did very well thereafter. I know for me, I love it because I use to struggle to get him to want to read. He wasn’t a fan of reading until ClassicalAcademic Press came into our home.

We all know the perks of having a Teacher's Edition when teaching. My favorite section in this book was the scripture related to each chapter. I made it easy to reference to and also great for daily copywork for my son. I had a hard time with the page falling out, but that's because when I was folding the previous pages over. So, I would recommend not doing that.
