EGM Educational System LLC-Review

 photo henry_logo_zpsb48ee4fe.png
We had the pleasure to review EGM Educational System. This was a joy to use because we all were not only learning, but learning having fun reading. Some of my children are struggling readers and the Rewards Chart & Stickers helped a lot. My younger children enjoyed reading with the Magic Finger.

READS Parent/Child Reading Comprehension System helped my children to be more independent readers. The questions helped them recall what they read. We had a lot of pictures to go with their writing as well. The Speedy Speller was a great reference for some words they didn't know how to spell. It gave us the opportunity to learn how to look up words in this book and the dictionary.

A few of my like about READS Parent/Child Reading Comprehension System were the Reading Chart. This allowed me to change our previous reading incentive program. another like was the Magic Finger. This helped my younger children to follow along as they read. Although, they were distracted in the beginning, but was that was gone, they did very well after that phase was gone. The Reading Guide Strip helped my older son to not skip lines while he read. Often times the font is smaller and he tends to forget a line or two.

EGM Educational System LLC is really affordable for all budgets because it's only $19.95. What's in the package for READS Parent/Child Reading Comprehension System? Items are listed below:

READS Parent/Child Reading Comprehension System settled very well for my children. The age range is from 1st to 4th grade and my children are in 1st and 2nd grades. So, EGM Educational System LLC was an easy fit for us and we enjoyed it.

My children began with a book of their chose, as long as it was appropriate for their reading level. I had my children read their book for 20 minutes. After they had read for 20 minutes, they would then chose a Question Card. This will vary because each question was different each child. Some included writing or drawing about something they had recalled from their reading. After they had completed this, they would earn a sticker on their Rewards Chart. At the end of the week, if they earned their daily sticker, they would earn their reward.

Reading Organizer

My son use to use this type of graphic organizer when reading in public school. I thought it would have been nice to continue using it for him throughout his reading. It wasn’t a struggle to continue this and because he had already use it before. I thought I would share this because I’ve been asked about how I get my children to read.

I also use several other programs to encourage my children to read. I created an incentive program to teach them to earn money through reading to buy things they want to buy. I also use the Book It Program. This gives them pizza coupons for Pizza Hut. We also use the Read to Succeed Program with Great America. This gives them a chance to earn free admission tickets to the nearest theme park.

So, you see there are many options, but you’ll need to find what works for your children. This is a nice start to help you motivate your child to read. There are short and long term goals, as well as teaching your children about how important it is to read.

Our New Schedules

I made a couple of changes this year. I've decided that we’re moving from the public school schedule to our own. We’re now moving to January to November because we love to celebrate the holiday’s to the fullest. So, we’re doing individualized schedules and working with regular folders.

As you can see, the folder has a list of what subjects they’re to do each day. Then on a separate sheet of paper, they look for their name and scroll to the subject in question to find what they need to do for that subject. It will normally be in order unless they decide to hop around, but the idea is to maintain structure through self taught. I’ll also put sticky notes for more detail if needed or a simple note saying, “See Mom.”
These folders are working out great for us. I think the kids are really enjoying these. I see less and less walking away from their work. The same goes for playing around. Most of all they are all more focused.

Accomplished

It was a great day for my second grader. He tends to be the last one to complete his work, but with the new schedules, he was the third one done. It’s not a race, but when he use to be done close to dinner time, it can be frustrating for the both of us.

He worked on Prefixed through a file folder game. He was able to work on this without my elp. That’s huge for him because he’s so depended on me to sit with him. He actually told me, “I can do it by myself.” Talk about breakthrough. I think we’re both happier.

He chose to read “Hour of the Olympics” in the Magic Tree House series. He had already read “Dinosaurs before Dark” last year. He’s now up to Chapter 3 because he had started reading it over the weekend.

Math was another accomplishment. He paid attention for the most part during the oral lesson. He completed the worksheet on his own without any problems, even without me sitting next to him. As well as getting them all right.

He moved up a level for Hooked on Phonics. He’s now on level 3 and this also seems to be fairly easy. There’s a few words that he was stuck on. However, he’s still learning a few new words.

This is the most shocking for me because we've struggled with handwriting since we began homeschooling. We've had a few approaches that have worked, but not to the point that he finished in 10 minutes. His average has been 30 minutes or longer. Either it’s too easy or he’s start to come around. This was the same for his spelling as well.
